What actually happens in a Soph-Fit small group PT session (and why it's not a class)
If you've searched for personal training near Radcliffe, Whitefield, Prestwich or Bury, you've probably come across the term "small group PT" a lot. And you've probably wondered, is that just a class with a different name?
It isn't. And the difference is bigger than you'd think.
It's not a class. It's coaching, delivered in a small group.
A class means everyone in the room does the same thing, at the same pace, whether it fits them or not. That's not what happens here.
At Soph-Fit, every session is capped at a small number of people so our coaching team can actually coach, correcting your technique, adjusting your load, and keeping an eye on how you're moving, not just how hard you're working. You're not following the person next to you. You're following a plan that's built around you, inside a room full of people doing the same for themselves.
That's the whole point of small group PT: you get the individual attention of personal training, without training completely alone.
Yoga and our kids' sessions are run separately, they're proper classes, and that's exactly what they're designed to be. Small group PT is a different thing entirely, and it's worth knowing the distinction before you book.
Every session follows a plan, not a mood
Nothing at Soph-Fit is picked on the day because it "feels like a good workout." Every session sits inside a structured 12-week training block, with progressive overload built in, meaning the weight, reps or difficulty moves forward in a way that's tracked, not guessed at.
That structure is what turns "I went to the gym a few times" into visible strength, better energy, and results that actually stick.
We work with your physio. We work with your feelings. We don't pander to either.
If you're carrying an old injury, working with a physiotherapist, or nervous about walking through the door for the first time, that's not a barrier to starting, it's part of the plan. Our coaching team will happily work alongside a GP, physio or rehab specialist to make sure your training supports what they're doing, not works against it.
But here's the part that makes us different: we're not going to wrap you in cotton wool. We'll listen. We'll adapt. We take how you're feeling seriously. What we won't do is let "I don't feel like it today"quietly become "I stopped going." Part of our job is helping you push through the barriers that are genuinely holding you back, not just the ones that are comfortable to blame.
That's how you build something that lasts: real strength, real confidence, and habits that don't fall apart the second motivation dips.
Coached, not supervised
There's a difference between someone watching you train and someone coaching you. In a small group PT session at Soph-Fit, you'll be corrected on technique, checked in on properly, and have your progress tracked, not left to get on with it while a coach hovers nearby.
Every six weeks, that progress gets reviewed properly, face to face, with the coach who's actually been with you the whole way through, not a printout, not a body scan, a conversation.
Who it's for
Small group PT works whether you've never lifted a weight in your life or you've trained on and off for years. What actually matters is whether you're ready to be coached, to turn up, do the work, and let someone who knows what they're doing guide the process.
Ready to see what a session actually feels like?
The best way to understand small group PT is to experience it. Our 6-week trial gives you a proper introduction to how we coach: a dedicated coach, structured programming, and real progress tracking from day one.
